February 08, 2006 - March 18, 2006

February 8 - March 18, 2006

Yoshii Gallery, New York, in collaboration with Jablonka Galerie, Köln, is pleased to announce “Eric Fischl: Sculpture and Watercolor,” an exhibition of untitled works made by the American artist in 2005. Featuring bronze sculptures and watercolors, the exhibition will offer a unique opportunity to explore the relationship between the acclaimed artist’s use of both mediums.

The pieces exhibited in Sculpture and Watercolor demonstrate Fischl’s finely honed command of the expressive capabilities of the human figure, a subject to which he has devoted his output since his start in the seventies. All of a uniform size (60 x 40 inches), in addition to being untitled and of a spare, monochromatic palette of transparent blues, Fischl’s watercolors present the viewer with often faceless human bodies devoid of spatial or narrative contexts. In both his watercolors and his sculptures, the figures communicate through gestural poses, which alternate between awkwardness and the erotic, at times appearing reflective and active simultaneously, though always removed and distant from the viewer. Throughout the exhibition, Fischl’s human forms offer explorations into themes of solitude and the relationships between people, particularly men and women.

Please join us for the opening reception on Wednesday February 8, 2006 18.00 to 20.00
