Guggi Biography of Guggi’s Life 1959 Guggi is born in Dublin. He and his nine siblings are brought up under a strict disciplinarian, fundamentalist Christian father and a hard-working, kind-hearted mother who nurtures his love of drawing and painting from a very early age 1963 He attends Linsey Road Presbyterian National School 1972 He attends high school at the Blessed Oliver Plunkets Comprehensive 1976 Founder member of the legendary avant-garde band Virgin Prunes. The band’s uncompromising body of work and their renowned live performances, which encompass performance art, painting and post punk musical experimentations, secure them a large cult following in mainland Europe in the early 1980s 1984 Guggi parts company with Virgin Prunes in order to concentrate on painting full-time 1988 His first exhibition: a four-man show with Bono, Gavin Friday and Charlie Whisker at the Hendrix Gallery on Stephen’s Green in Dublin 1990 Guggi’s first solo exhibition, at Kerlin Gallery 2006 Trip to Japan 2010 Guggi currently lives and works in Dublin with his wife, five sons, four dogs, and a collection of unusual reptiles. «back |
